It's a fantastic unit, as for other suggestions it depends what features you're after. If you have no need for VoIP and storage and want a rock solid DSL modem with good wireless a TP-Link for 1/3 of the price will work fine.

Once again it depends what your requirements are.

Asking which modem is best is a bit like asking which car is best.

dont know if it helps but i use a fritzbox and without a doubt it's been the best modem i have used, it is so stable i have left it on for 7 weeks and it never once dropped the connection . Would buy another one in a second.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Yea I have the Fritzbox 7340 and it's really good now with the new firmware.

Only issues I have had is the VoIP, my phone rings randomly even when no 1 is calling. Not sure what is causing this.
Another thing I noticed which may be specific to my line is when I was on ADSL2+ I lost about 2-3mb/s sync speed over my netgear. This may be different now with the new firmware.

Also if your planning on bridging with another router, currently PPPOE pass through is not working.

VoIP phones ringing with nobody there is typically bots looking for insecure VoIP proxies. It won't happen on a Linksys/Cisco device as you should have Restrict Source IP enabled, but Cisco are the only vender to have such an option.

Yea, I have been looking into cisco stuff.

I still had the phantom calls even though I had unplugged the dsl which indicated it was the modem.

One of my old phones would ring whenever the message waiting light came on with the newer handset. Simple solution was to throw the old phone away.

Love the Huawei hg556a, use it for SIP/VoIP, hasn't caused any problems yet. Have updated the firmware on it but that's about it :-)

Just chugs away in the corner. :-)

Woosh now offers a free Fritz!Box 7270 with their naked/sip plans. that should save you quite a few bucks.
