All,

I'm trying to share my ADSL internet connection from my desktop with me laptop.

Tried the manual which I found on this site but still it is not working.

My desktop: XP home edition
My Laptop: XP Pro edition (laptop from my work)

I have performed the following actions:
- Within the Network connections of my desktop, I selected my Planet ADSL connection and configured and checked internet sharing and selected Bluetooth Network. (The other network connections which are available are (1394 connection, LAN connection (not active), Lan-2 connection (WAN network driver - active) and LAN3 connection (WebRacer 851 - active - My DSL USB modem).
- Within the Bluetooth network (of my desktop) I have configured the following:
    - TCP-IP configuration:
       - IP address: 192.168.0.1
       - Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
       - Standard-Gateway: 192.168.0.1
       - Preferred DNS: 192.168.0.1
- Within the bluetooth network (of my laptop) I ave configured the following:
    - TCP-IP configuration:

       - IP address: 192.168.0.55

       - Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

       - Standard-Gateway: 192.168.0.1

       - Preferred DNS: 192.168.0.1

Within the Advanced configuration of the Bluetooth on my desktop:
    - Local Services - Network Access: Allow other devices to access the internet/LAN via this computer.

Then I start the Bluetooth Network Access from my Laptop, which is accepted by my desktop. I have now the Bluetooth network running on both machines.

If I then try to go to the internet via my laptop, I see that packages are send via the Bluetooth network of my laptop. If I look at the status of my bluetooth network of my desktop I can see that packages are received.
But that's it. I don't see any information going back to my laptop, nor I see usage of my ADSL connection to the internet.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Is it normal that when I look within my bluetooth network places that the Network access with my laptop is disabled?

Thx,
Dremeber

Welcome to Geekzone. The DNS address on your desktop should not be 192.168.0.1, but instead it should be the ISP's DNS server address.

Open the command prompt and run IPCONFIG /ALL and you will find the correct IP address in the configuration on your Planet ADSL connection.

Hi Freitasm,

Thanks for helping out.

I did a ipconfif /all. Learning that DNS-servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 194.119.228.67. I configured this is my Bluetooth network connection on my desktop. But still no browsing via my laptop. I stil don't see any traffic on my ADSL connection when trying to browse on my laptop.

Grtz,
Dremeber

Next thing to check is your firewall software - either third party or the built-in Windows Firewall. They must be configured to allow communications to flow...

From your laptop can you successfully ping 192.168.0.1?

Cannot ping to 192.168.0.1. Request time-out (4 times)

After switching of my software firewall at my desktop I was able of pinging 192.168.0.1 from my laptop.

So the problem lies within my software firewall.

Thx for all the help, no I can start looking for forums where they can tell how to configure my software firewall properly.

Thx for all the help.

You should only need to allow the network 192.168.0.* to go through your computer. Or disable the firewall on the Bluetooth adapter altogether.
