So its time for an upgrade.

I currently have a telecom Thomson TG585 v7 modem / wireless router.

I'm lookning at getting the TP Link TLWR1043ND router.

What I am wondering is can I use the ADSL modem in the Thomson and connect it to the TPLink for internet connectivity and turn all the wireless features on the TG585 off. I basically don't want to use this at all in the network - I just want the modem. The TP Link wil do all the network stuff.

Whiel I can set up a router/modem on its own all this bridging stuff looks quite complicated. I can probably figure it out if it can be done but can't see where it has been done already.

Anyone with simple instructions would be appreciated!

At the bottom of the home networking page in the Thomson admin is "Assign public IP address to a device.".

The Thomson then handles the modem work/authentication and hands the public IP to the device that you assign via DHCP.

Note: You may need to make sure the TP Link is using a different LAN network range though. eg: If the Thomson is using 192.168.1.x configure the TP Link to use 192.168.2.x for LAN and DHCP

Thanks for this Ragnor. So it sounds like this can be done. Do I run a wire from the Thomson to the TP link?

Or is it wireless internet from the Thomson to the TPLink and then wireless intenet to the devices I have around the home?
