Was thinking of replacing my current D-link DSL - 504T Gen 2. Anyone have any suggestions on whats the best cabled modem/router I should get?

The TP-Link TL-WR1043ND is pretty good value ($99 at computerlounge), has gigabit ports, and can be upgraded to 3rd party software like DD-WRT

If you are looking for something simple you could go for an Apple Airport Express, they work with any PC, have good speeds and range, and can be had for $150 as they get rid of the old model.

What are your needs? By saying that you are upgrading, I'm assuming that you want WiFi?

hey guys, well i dont want a wireless just cable. my current one is a bit faulty. Just want a cabled modem/router which can give me really good speed for gaming and downloading etc.

It's a bit confusing when you say cable, to clarify are you on Telstraclear's cable internet service OR ADSL2+ with another ISP?

If you have a Dlink 504 I suspect you are on ADSL2+ and when you say "cable" you mean network cable not Telstraclear's Cable Internet service.

You can get a basic DSL modem/switch/router like the TP Link TD-8840 or Dynalink RTA1320v6 for around $60 new.

Alternative if you keep an eye on Trademe you can pick up an older Dynalink RTA1320 for next to nothing, so many were given out as starting modems a few years ago by ISP's.

I think he mean "cabled" in the subject as well - a router with ethernet ports.

Not a "router for cable modem (HFC) network as deployed by TelstraClear in Wellington/Kapiti/Christchurch".

Hey guys thanks for the replies. sorry if im confusing you guys, dont know much about this stuff. Well at the moment im looking for a modem/router with ethernet port, i assume I'm looking for ADSL 2+ since I'm with telecom?
Currently I also have a WRT350N

Would you guys recommend me getting a modem with 4 ethernet ports and use 1 of those ports to connect it to the WRT350N or should i just get a modem and connect that to the WRT350N? or should i just replace this whole setup and buy something new?
All i want to get out of this is the fastest possible speed I can get with wireless and ethernet cable

also to note that my current setup D-link DSL - 504T Gen 2 + WRT350N the internet gets turned off when I'm downloading and the speed gets too high and the modem needs to be turned off and back on for the internet to come back. would be awesome if you guys can suggest something to me that won't do this
