Can I use a ADSL2 Modem purchased in Australia in New Zealand?

Probably wont be Telepermitted, so you would be breaking the law by connecting it to the PSTN.

In theory it should work

As above. It might not be (but probably is) Telepermitted, but it will work.

Hi, there is nothing about it that wont work, just remember to change the VCI/VPI settings.

As above. It might not be (but probably is) Telepermitted, but it will work.

It won't be telepermitted if it's some from Oz. Even if the same model exists in NZ the telepermit isn't valid without the telepermit sticker.

In summary yes it will work, but legally you're not allowed to connect it to the Chorus network.

I've always been hazy on Telepermits - do they apply to models of equipment or each physical device? If an identical model is sold in both AUS and NZ (and telepermitted in NZ) surely it would be fine?

EDIT: Aha, steve you're too quick!

EDIT2: Though the following is a bit ambigous IMO:

Products sold in New Zealand that have been granted a Telepermit also have the right to display a Telepermit label on the equipment. This label clearly indicates that the product has been certified and may be connected to the Telecom network.

I take it if it is a straight out wireless router then their is not Telepermit as it is not connected directly to exchange. Correct?

If it's not corrected to the PSTN, correct.

Any device connected to the PSTN, or VoIP hardware that interconnects with the PSTN requires a Telepermit.

if it was given free as part of a deal or it came from Telstra it is likely to be locked to the network and needs to be hacked
