Welcome to Geekzone... Some laptops are "Bluetooth" ready, which means they have all the software pre-installed, but they don't actually have the Bluetooth radio installed. It looks like this may be the case.

You will have to check the specs for your laptop (in the manual) to confirm there's a Bluetooth radio installed.

I am looking for the specifications and it doesn't look like it comes with Bluetooth built-in...

If this is actually the case you may need to purchase an external Bluetooth adapter.

My wife has an Acer Travelmate with the same button on the front, but no Bluetooth radio installed.  It seems as though this is an option which can be installed at the factory.

I just checked the web site of our local Acer distributor and there isn't any way to order the Bluetooth option for any of the notebook PCs which are sold here.  I don't know if the same situation applies in the UK, but your local Acer distributor should be able to tell you.  Possibly the Bluetooth radio is not something which can be installed later i.e. it may require components to be present on the mainboard which in your case have not been fitted.
