I've run out of ethernet ports in one room. I was going to buy a small switch, but I have a near newTD-8840 sitting unused. How do I need to configure it so that it will just function as a switch. Anything apart from disabling it's DHCP server?

That should be sufficient. You might want to check that the LAN IP isn't the same as existing hardware on your network.

What would I change it to? My modem is 192.168.1.1 and my router is 192.168.2.1.

Anything that isn't those two. I tend to use something like 192.168.2.254
