Hi all,

I'm looking at replacing my parents' current Linksys WAG54GP2 with a TP-Link TD-W8960N, but have read a lot of mixed opinions of the TP-Link modem.

There seems to be a lot of support for it here on GZ, but many of the reviewers on Amazon seem to think this modem suffers from constant wifi dropouts.

Can anyone comment on whether they've noticed these dropouts or any other issues?

FWIW - Others will have differing experiences.

We replaced our failing LinkSys WAG120N with a TP-Link TD-W8960N v3 about 5 months ago.
Currently connected - PC. Wireless - another PC, 2x notebooks, tablet and phone.

Issues to date = 0. Dropouts? - I have never noticed any.

I have noticed that it does appear to take longer handshaking on power up while connecting to the Internet than any of my previous routers.
We now leave it powered on anyway.

I also have this model, probably almost a year now. Wired PC, wireless android phone and laptop. Occasional visiting iPhone. (sons girlfriend) My sons mates come over and plug in or use wireless for gaming. They "Demand" no lag and fast speeds. No issues with dropouts although range to the other end of the house is not the best. That said the modem is sitting on the floor in the dining/kitchen area next to the oven. From articles I've read if I went to the bother to shift it to the passage in the middle of the house and put it higher up I would have better reception

I recently replaced my wag120n for the TD-W8960N .

No problems whatsoever , Make sure to update your firmware to the latest version.

No problems for me, I'm a big fan of them.

In any case, it will be an improvement over the WAG!

Thanks guys. I'll look into buying one.

It will be in the center of the house, so signal strength shouldn't be a problem and it will be left on, so slow handshaking won't be noticeable after first setting it up.

I think, at this stage, anything will be better than the WAG. Especially since the power supply for it stopped working the other day!

I've got a TP-Link wireless router (WR841ND). Best router I've ever owned. Hands down (and cost me AU$29 :D)
