Hi Guys

Just received VDSL modem from Acquire.co.nz - a Zyxel 870HN.

Opened it up and packets were opened, cable tie was free, modem case was slightly dirty and CD was scratched and had a fingerprint.

Their reply was that Telecom opened and configured the modems. I find this a bit strange. What do you guys think?

Was offered a $20 discount.

Cheers,

Jason

Am getting connected to VDSL tomorrow. Turned it on to see if it was in a 'factory state'. It worked to that extent.

Just wondering if it is typical behavior to sell something as new and receive it in the state I did!

MMmm I would take the $20 but confirm that it works.

Also check to see if its not damaged anywhere. Why would they need the CD to configure the modem...

We've sourced and supplied clients with this particular model in the past - from the official distributor.

Never was any evidence of being opened (not that the box is sealed) like you've described.

Seems a bit odd.  More likely a customer return than anything else.  But if it doesn't bother you too much just take the discount, otherwise insist on a new modem...

Why would telecom be wanting to configure a VDSL modem?

1. They don't do VDSL
2. They supply their own Modems :)

I would take the discount if you're happy with the modem or demand a replacement, Sounds as if it is a customer return.
