Hi.

I bought a Netgear WNDR3800 router as wanted something better than the Technicolour TG587v3 that I got as part of the Telecom fibre trial. However I can't get it to connect to the Internet. I am using user@xtrabb.co.nz with a non blank password over PPOE. Reset it and the ONT but still no joy. Plugging back in the Technicolour is fine and internet is immediate available. The Netgear connects fine to the local network and it tells me the internet isn't connected.

Any thoughts, suggestions before I contact Netgear??

Have you configured VLAN tagging on the Netgear's WAN interface?

Doesn't look like the WNDR3800 is capable of VLAN tagging on its WAN interface, at least not on stock firmware.

Unless your ISP has provisioned an untagged UNNI port (and supports this) all UFB connections require VLAN10 to be tagged on the WAN port.

This is the same requrement as VDSL2 and ADSL2+ if you want to use PPPoE.

If your hardware doesn't support VLAN tagging you'll either need to move to hardware that does or use a VLAN capable switch or something cheap like a low end Mikrotik board to tag the traffic.

A cheap managed switch or a more advanced router are probably your best bets.
