Hi folks -
I've scoured the web and the forums here but no matter what I try I can't crack this one using published advice - and I've followed most of it already!
Basically, I have a desktop and a laptop with working Belkin bluetooth dongles and software. I can exchange files from either of them and synchonise calendar and contacts with my Nokia 6600 using Nokia's PC Suite, I can get dial up and GPRS internet access from the laptop to the phone, and I can exchange files between the laptop and the PC using the public folders set to C:\
I can get the Bluetooth null modem to connect instantly from the laptop to the desktop by double clicking 'Network Access' as a service in the desktop's services under 'My Bluetooth Places'. To make this work I had to change the network bridge settings on the desktop under TCP/IP to IP address=192.168.0.1 and subnet mask=255.255.255.0 and the My bluetooth places/desktop/Network access for the BluetoothNullModem to use IP address=192.168.0.20 and preferred DNS server=192.168.0.1
My problem is that no matter how I try I can't get internet access on the laptop using my desktop ADSL connection.
My setup is:
DESKTOP:
Windows XP Home
Network connections:
Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem (with share connection ticked)
and three 'bridged' items - LAN (Realtek RTL8139) routed to a hub providing hardwired ethernet internet access from two other PCs, LAN 3 (Bluetooth LAN Access Server) and 1934 connection. Everything was configured using the built-in wizards, which is why I guess there's something called the 'network bridge' which seems to be the only thing that's actually configurable to any degree.
LAPTOP:
Windows XP Home
Somehow I seem to have this automatically connecting via its dongle so that I can share files through the public folder without any logon procedure by default. ICS seems to work fine when I'm connected to the desktop via ethernet.
The only other thing I think I've changed from standard is to stop the 'servicelayer.exe' process from running in Task Manager. This seems to be something to do with the Nokia files, but before disabling it I couldn't get the laptop Bluetooth modem to work at all.
I'm afraid I'm nothing but an enthusiastic non-techie, and I haven't got a clue what half of what I've just written means anyway!
Oh - and I've also made sure I tried everything with my firewalls disabled. I've also read references in a few places to Bluetooth PAN, but as I can't find that anywhere I assume I don't have it.
Any suggestions more than gratefully received. Thanks.
Laurie
(PS: I don't have a PDA, so at least that's one less thing to worry about)
