Hi there,

I am looking for the following pieces of software-

- Server Management
- Logon Script generator (that can map drives, emails, programs, printers etc)
- Something to stop a user using the control panel (Preferebly incorperated into the logon script)
- network messenger
- Any other usefull software

Can anyone help me? I dont know what to get for all these things, I know how to run a server, I am just not very esperienced and I dont know what to use.

Sorry If I have put this in the wrong forum, I am not too sure where this would go.

Many thanks,

Ellipsis

What platform and what budget? Here are some suggestions for Windows 2003 Server:

- Server Management: Logmein IT Reach is a good tool. It allows full server control over the Internet through a browser, and remote access. Full server controls means it: services, users, configuration, event viewer, restart, file management, everything. And no need to open Incoming ports on your firewall. It works on any Windows version from Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista.

- Stop user access control panel: just investigate Security Policies. You can manage security policies from a central location and distribute them or apply on a machine. Some software will automate this for you, like ManageEngine Desktop Central.

- AppManager is great to keep your servers healt history and see where bottlenecks are.

Thanks,

It doesnt really matter what the cost is, so long as it isnt on going. The platform will be Server 2003. I still need things like network messengers and logon script generators, which I am really REALLY stuck on. I also still want a program that can do the restrictions that runs from the logon script, if that isnt possible, then I will try it the other way.

Thanks again,

Ellipsis.

PS, I am running Server Standard and I want to run forums on my intranet. How do I do this? Can this be done? Can I run it on the internet at all? Can I store files on my server, then access them from the net VIA ftp or something?

IF you want to run a forum or discussion site on an intranet, check Sharepoint Services. It's free and integrates with your domain, etc...
