To get started I'm with Snap, I have a two DSL-502T (Gen-II)'s (both running OpenWRT firmware) Hooked up to an RT-N16 (also running OpenWRT), and all three properties are in Christchurch.

So a year and a half a go I had a stable connection for an entire month.

Then I moved to a property with below average sync rates (9mbps / 640kbps).

Snap told me that there wasn't much that could be done about that (not in a VDSL area as well).

I would also get a DC (desync) every morning at 6am NZT (7am NZDT) it was so consistent that I could predict it down to the second, and every morning it seemed to creep forward about 40s, tried the other Router same problem.

And more irregularly I get DCs at 7:40am (NZT), and some DCs in the evenings which seems to be related to the weather (rain).

Now I thought this house just had bad wiring, and recently I moved, and now that I have ADSL setup I get the exact same problems with the exact same times of day.

Why are these DCs so consistent? Did Chorus install some new DSLAMs that restart the lines? Considering these speeds are still over ASDL1 speeds I thought the line would be at least stable.

Do I just need to suck up and pay for a Master filter? (Recommendations?)

Do I need a new modem? (if so could someone recommend me something to hook up to my RT-N16)

Edit: Here is the output of my router at the moment: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=UTLpMnuX

Snap just said that Chorus charge $400~ for an install, and even recomended we go through someone else.
Any recommendations for a installation in Christchurch?

The thing is, what happens if a $400 master filter doesn't fix the problem? Maybe rule out everything else first.

Yeah, if my connection didn't drop so perfectly timed, I would assume bad connection, but why/how do wires know its 6am every day for the last year, the only other option is that Chorus' newer DSLAMs has a bug or something when connected to this specific model of router, paying for a master filter and a new modem isn't something I want to do for a product thats at its end of life, but I can't afford VDSL, and Fibre is still about a year away, its also not like I can just ask a friend to borrow his router for the week either to test, I really don't have $300-500 to throw around on something that will be useless when UFB comes out.

I've tried everything except a different model modem.

Do a search on DSL-502T and the list of disconnect problems goes on and on. Your regular timing is a mystery.

Years ago Telecom was replacing 502Ts before they failed completely.

Do you have an security alarm panel that might be breaking the phone line for a daily test to a monitoring company?

I'd say you need to eliminate the modem model as a possible cause of the problem, those 502's weren't exactly known for their reliability. They don't last forever either, could be worn out capacitors on the boards.

If you want to go new the Draytek Vigor 120 can do a full PPPoA to PPPoE pass-through/relay so your Asus can use PPPoE for it's WAN

Alternatively check trademe for modems that are known to support PPPoA half bridge aka ip extension, eg:
Dynalink RTA1320
Netcomm NB6
Dynalink RTA1025W
Linksys AM300
TP Link TD-8840 (note: not the 8840T version)

These can usually be had for $20-30ish

Neither place had/has an alarm system.

I'm thinking I could possibly change the time on my router forward about 6hours or something and if it disconnects still at 6am then its possibly not the router doing it.

Nope, I've done isolation tests on both properties.

however TC-cable was wired in to these phone lines, I'm not sure how well the Chorus guy reconnects their lines to it.

I'm looking around for a cheap router to do some testing to eliminate that possibility.

The move to/from TCL copper is simple a matter of reconnecting the Chorus cable to the internal premises wiring with a couple of scotchlok connectors within the ETP. This is highly unlikely to be the cause of such issues.

Do you feel confident enough to install a master filter yourself? You can get them for about 30 bucks on trademe.

Have you checked your modem/router config to see if it may be rebooting itself at a set time each day?
