Got a second hand RB1200 to have a play and learn a bit about RouterOS but my foray in to learning hasn't started too well.

Did a 30/30/30 reset which I would have hoped would bring it back to the default config. It didn't.

Tried to connect on the serial port with 115200 8N1 and all I get is a bunch of random characters scrolling down the screen. Tried a bunch more 'common' baud rates but still no deal.

What am I doing wrong? Was this RB cheap for a reason?

The manual mentions "use a metal object to short circuit the metallic reset jumper while booting" so that may be worth a try.

Apparently it's possible to disable the "hardware reset by jumper" for security reasons in the software, if the previous owner did this you may be out of luck!

Yea have done the hard reset procedure with the jumper on the board. Tried all sort of combos with the boot loader switch too.
I was wondering if it had in fact been disabled by the previous user. Perhaps I better get in contact with the seller and see how the unit was configured. If I can find out an IP address all be sweet as.
