Hi there,

I'm on my way down to NZ soon (forever!! I'm free of the aweful UK!!! MUHAHAHAHAA!!) but I want to find out if there are any wi-Fi based internet service providers that I can subscribe to ?

I've got an Ipaq 5450 with the WiFi built in and it would be nice to be able to do internet/e-mail etc while I job hunt.

Anyone have any pointers ?

Thanks

Mark

Hi back!

If you're planning to establish yourself in Auckland, look for Walker Wireless.

They provide Wi-fi internet in the Auckland CBD. http://www.walkerwireless.co.nz

In Wellington I'd recommend looking for information at Citylink.

Good luck!

Ok, this is something I knew about, and forgot: RoamAd provides "cellular wi-fi" in Auckland. Apparently they have a 100km2 network available there!

Stay tuned! Soon we're going to post a review of a Wellington-based Wi-Fi service, and at the same time it'll be a review of a Pocket PC with built-in Wi-Fi...

A better site for wireless information is http://www.nzwireless.org - This is the beginning of a Community Wireless Project.

Interesting site... Care to explain more about this community project?

Basically a group of people keen on using the free spectrum to play games, share files and various other information, streaming Audio/video/voice etc. We do have a sponsor who has a decent internet pipe as well, so this will come on board further down the track. The biggest barrier here in AK is the lay of the land (hilly, and lots of large buildings in the way) as well as getting hold of good, well priced kit (AP's, Wireless NICs, Parabolic dishes, Omnis etc)
