Im planing on building my network into two parts, we have dual internet connections and look at using vlan. Do i need to get a router that supports vlan or can i use my current setup.
I'm a bit confused how you would implement VLANs without networking equipment that supports VLANs. Yes, your router needs to be VLAN aware, and if you want devices from multiple VLANs to share the same switch, you will need managed switches.

Ok thanks, very new to vlans and trying to teach myself. Time to find one. Another question, if i have a switch upstairs and one line going downstairs to a router that has vlan support, does the first switch need to have VLAN support?
If you have a switch connected to a router routing VLANs, you either need a switch that has VLAN support to trunk multiple VLANs across one port, or you will have to set the port that switch is uplinked to to a specific VLAN, and only have devices from one VLAN on that switch.
Hi, My cisco srp 521w given by vodafone for fibre trial can not only do the wan vlan tagging, but also lan side vlan tagging. Basically its 4 lan ports can support over 5 vlans and you can either enable or disable intervlan routing. i think you can give it a try.
