Current switch has died, need recommendations (and suppliers please) of a good, reliable 8 port unmanaged switch please.

I bought a cheap 24 port switch and it was noisy and died after a couple of years.

Spent a bit extra on the HP procurve 24 port gigabit switch and it was fanless with a lifetime warranty. 8 port much cheaper, not sure about the warranty but a good quality switch /router worth their weight in gold.

Works well. Does what you expect. Cheap as chips.

In hindsight I should have thought about when I bought my cheap switches was the location of the LEDs and the clarity of them, I got some linksys ones where the leds are on the opposite side to the sockets which is a right pain, and they are those crap ones where they have the LED on the circuitboard and then pieces of plastic to "guide" the light to a hole in the front, which are totally useless unless you view it from straight on, which is impossible when they are facing away from you because they are on the opposite side to the sockets.

Other than that, unmanaged switches seem to be much the same.

Oh, except for some come with a stupid wallwart powersupply vs inbuilt or a nice inline one that doesnt block outlets above/below it.

I have a number of remote solar sites up on high hills that are quite inaccessible. I used to use canaries with ping controlled relays to power cycle the 8 port switch onsite when they would go off, or i would have to get on the quad bike (usually in bad weather) to go and do it manually.
Since switching to the TP-Link 8 port ones, i havent had to visit a site in two years to manually reboot, or remotley reboot a switch.

They will also happily run on 12-24 volts - even though they are specified for 12v and come with a 12v transformer.

And they are only approx $30

So yeah, I love TP-Links

This will do you fine.
Unmanaged switches are much of a muchness. Anything will do. HP is awesome though. HP all day over Cisco and Allied Telesis managed gear. Super easy to use and just as powerful.

TBH at that level they are all pretty much the same. Size seems to matter here (don't let them tell you otherwise!)

I use the HP Procurve 24 port, I have had no issues at all with mine. its been going non-stop for years now
