My Bluetooth Activesync stopped working when I reinstalled XP. I have reinstalled the Bluetooth software and Activesync 3.7.1 several times. The Bluetooth Connection Manager (from 3com, with their now obsolete PCMCIA card) recognizes my IPAQ 3870, but Activesync won't. It keeps telling me that com3 doesn't exist, though it is clearly the port assigned by the connection manager as the serial client. When the activesync fails, my bluetooth connection to my HP printer starts failing too.

Any suggestions? Anybody else have similar problems?
Thanks

Do you have a personal firewall software installed? Zone Alarm, NIS or similar?

Also, there is a problem with ActiveSync that in some situations it will not store the COM port settings, and set to COM1 after a reboot. Is it still pointing to the correct port?

I don't have a personal firewall, so it isn't that.

I do think there's something going on with the com ports. Although it points to com3 consistently, activesync repeatedly finds that com3 doesn't exist and then starts trying to reinstall the connection. However, when I go to device manager, com 3 is assigned to the serial client. I don't know how else to check on com ports or how they are functioning.

It may, however, be relevant that I get a RAS error when installing the bluetooth card. After I get the error, it seems to install fine, but since it appears there may be a connection between the ras error and handling of com ports, it may be relevant.

Perhaps RAS is configured to listen on COM3? That would make it unavailable to AcitveSync.

How would I tell if that's what is happening, and how would I fix it?
