Hey Guys,

I can't find any information on whether the Vodafone HG556a supports DNSMasq....

Has anyone found out if this can be enabled? I have a router here running DD-WRT on the same network but the way it is setup I think it will be too hard to configure.

If asking, then yes it is to forward DNS requests for my new Chromecasts....

I wouldn't attempt it. I managed to brick 2 of these routers by messing with the firmware (bricked to the point I couldn't even recover it) - you could use your 2nd router, set a static IP on it and disable DHCP on the EchoLife HG556a, from here use it for dnsmasq to serve up both DHCP and DNS to your networked computers and hardcode the gateway IP as the EchoLife HG556a's IP. It's a bit of a hack but it's possibly your easiest solution for this.

Thanks guys,

I looked at OpenWRT but this disables the modem on the Echolife.

I had a bit of a play with the DD-WRT router but nothing seemed to able to get ip addresses under DHCP from that. I am not sure why.

It is acting as an access point at the moment so the WAN port is unused. I can't go

Echolife -> DDWRT -> LAN due to location issues.

At the moment it is setup:

LAN -> Echolife with switch underneath <- DDWRT <- LAN

if this makes sense....

Maybe a diagram would make more sense....

Maybe it would be easier just to buy a new modem....

If the DD-WRT router is on your LAN then why not just use it for a DNS server.

Set a static address on the WRT router and then just change the DHCP settings in the main router to set the WRT router as the DNS server for your devices.
