I have a Linksys X3500 modem with a USB drive plugged into the usb port on it. I can stream media from the drive over the net to my various devices but I cannot write to the drive over the net. I have to remove the drive from the modem and plug it into the laptop to add files.
Should I be able to write directly?

Going by this, I read it as a purely read only device... "The USB port let you add storage devices and printers to your network to share files or print wirelessly throughout your home."

Yes, you can write to it. But you need to set write permissions through the X3500's GUI for the share. If it is set to read-only, then no you can't write to it.

If I look at Storage/Disk, I have "Anonymous Disk Access ( read and write access) enabled but I still cant write to it or delete files :-(

Weird, I just tested one here and it writes OK. However, I have users & groups configured for access control. What permissions do you have on the share?

Hmm, rapidly getting out of my depth, do you mean on the GUI for the router where it says Create Share? Havent touched that, what should I put in?
