Hi,

We finally got our UFF connections yesterday, and along came with it 2 NetComm N300 routers which I would rather not use, and put both connections in to our Mikrotik RB750UP.

I wonder if anyone can help me set up the MT with a VLAN 10 for each connection, and if time allows the next step would be tagging what traffic goes out on which connection ( server and voip connection on one, desktops and wifi on the other ).

I've not got UFB and am newish to configuring mikrotik gear, so I'd take my advice as bottom rung here :)

My understanding was that UFB was terminated with a media conversion and splitter to several Ethernet ports (I assume one is feeding each of the N300s) Then each of the ports with a live service on them authenticated via PPPoE.

So to get that to go live to the RB750 using inbox you'd have to add an PPPoE client interface ( PPP -> plus) -> PPPoE client.) Once you did that you'd have a new interface and you can setup your NAT/Firewall rules from there.

Best of luck, and can you report back because I'm going to be in the same boat as soon as UFB goes live on my street, so any gotcha/tricks would be most appreciated.

Are you wanting to use the CIR for VoIP or just the EIR?

If you're planning on running two connections into a single router you're going to face some technical challenges in your setup in terms of routes. Without being rude, but if you need to ask how to set a VLAN on an interface in RouterOS then doing this may be slightly beyond your capabilities without spending some time learning about RouterOS.

Thanks for your reply, I was hoping to tag voip as important CIR to give it priority ( If my understanding is correct ). But as the phones and servers will be on their own connection, there should be enough juice in the pipe to not have to worry too much considering until now we have been operating on a 8down, <1up DSL connection.

I do know 'how' to set up the VLAN's but I am more looking for a 'best setup configuration' to take full advantage of the connections and the power of the MT. The routing side I can work on in time once I have the connections working.

If you were in this situation, what setup would use use ? I have a second 'backup' MT with a clone of the config of the first one that I could use if required.

I don't actually understand why you have 2 UFB connections.

Running multiple PPPoE connections into a Mikrotik and routing traffic from the same LAN via specific connections is far from a simple setup.

I'm not particularly familiar with the Mikrotik750, but from what I have seen of them, I'm not sure they support source-based routing, which would be one of the simpler ways to manage a "device A and B use WAN1, rest use WAN2" type requirement. Given you were previously using a 8/1 ADSL connection, why do you think dual fibre is a better solution than a single fibre connection with QoS? I feel like if we understood your intentions better we may be able to offer more assistance in getting things set up in the best way.

RouterOS supports sourced based routing. The issue becomes complex when you have multiple connections with the same default route - you need to start doing a lot of inbound and outbound route marking and use route marking on the default routes to ensure traffic is routing correctly.

re: 2 connections:
It was only way I could get multiple external IP addressees to our office which is an easier and better way to route to the http and https traffic to our linux and windows web servers.
And for the additional $40 per month for the second connection, it seamed like the best option.

Ok, Ignoring the second connection, and only using one, how would you go about this ?
Best use scenario ?
