I've just worked out why my DNS settings keep changing to google's public DNS - 8.8.8.8. Astrill changes your computer DNS settings when you establish a connection, then if you close and exit cleanly it puts the old DNS back. However if you just shut down or restart without exiting Astrill it doesn't reset your DNS and you're stuck on 8.8.8.8 unless you notice and change it manually.

Just a tip for other users really. I've emailed them to let them know it's a bug, and asked that they think about ways to fix or work around it.

Their tech support has said to set your DNS servers to automatic, but that doesn't work with a static IP.

Can your router do DHCP but give the same ip address to the same mac address? This is common in open source firmware like TomatoUSB, Gargoyle Router etc.

Yes! Static DCHP on dd-wrt. Thanks :)

Astrill first said "it's not a bug, it's a feature", then "you're using an old version". I'm yet to try the newer version, I suspect I'm already running it but neither the app nor the exe file properties have the full version/build number anywhere.
