Because my firmware upgrade corrupted my dongle, I can't get the drivers to load when the dongle is in DFU state. As a result, I have no hope of flashing a correct firmware because the utility will not detect the dongle as a result of having no drivers. Does anyone have advice?

Either check with the manufacturer if they can reflash the dongle, or you'll have to buy a new one.
