Getting Snap VDSL2 installed next week, I declined their offer for the Fritzbox ($445 IRC) as I prefer to source my own (and their price seemed $$). Snap guy on the line said that most modern Routers would work.. but from checking that out I found thats not true. I was about to buy a Belkin AC1800 Wifi ADSL router however I found it only supports ADSL 1/2+.

Anyone know of an available VDSL2 802.11ac router?
Alternatively, whats the cheapest 2 unit setup that anyone would recommend (VDSL modem and separate rate 801.11ac Wifi Router). Ive had dubious experience mixing brands of Routers and dedicated modems which is what I wanted an all in one unit. :(

I'd personally recommend going for the ZyXEL P870H-51a, popping it in bridge mode and getting an Asus RT-AC66U for your actual router, it's a bit of a pricey solution (about $550) but it'll give you 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (assuming your devices support ac) - to save some money if you're not needing wireless ac you could also get an Asus RT-N56U which goes for sub $200 but supports concurrent 2.4GHz / 5GHz 802.11a/b/g/n which is plenty for most people. I've personally got the NetGear WNDR4300 which is plenty for my needs and just bridging it with the Telecom standard VDSL router. Netgear also have the R6300 AC1750 which is pretty good bang for buck.

The thing with VDSL routers is (apart from the Fritz!Box) there's no real "all in one" routers out there with concurrent 2.4GHz / 5GHz 802.11ac wireless. You're best to go with 2 units here.

This is where that telecom crowdsourced router would come in handy - ~$300 for a device that does all that, hopefully we see it in market in 6 months!

6mo if all goes to plan :) but from what I saw before I left Telecom this is the perfect modem, especially for me due to it's OpenWRT support ;)

Asus' DSL-N66U is only N900, and is probably the highest specced all-in-one VDSL router I've found so far. If you really need wifi as fast as possible, though, the Zyxel P870H bridged to an Asus RT-AC68U.
