Trying to decide what to use as a punch down tool for my home network about fifteen sockets and the patch-panel.

My RJ45 cat6 wall sockets that I've got from the electrical wholesaler appear to have Krone style IDE connections in as much that the connectors are at a 45degree angle to the cable entry. My cheap little yellow punch down tool fits between the terminals and is as I understand it a 110 style punch down tool as it basically just consists of thin piece of metal with a slot in it.

I haven't got my patch panel yet and therefore I don't know how the terminals will be set out in it.

I've read all of the following. That...
A 110 tool can be used on a Krone termination and vis-a-versa.
A 110 tool can not be used on Krone termination and vis-a-versa.
A 110 tool can be used on a wall socket but perhaps not a patch-panel.
That a Krone (scissor type) tool is the greatest thing since sliced bread or words to that effect.
That only a Krone or 110 impact tool should be used to do a decent job.
and finally that they are all too much trouble so stick with cheapy style one I have along with some side cutters.

The Krone style tools I've seen on Trademe all look very similar but are quite widely different prices and are called either simply Krone or Krone LSA pro. Some say they are suitable for 110 style while another says Krone & ADC LSA

Can anyone throw a bit of light on these conflicting opinions and descriptions?

Thanks

Robin

Quick reply

Krone tool can only be used for Krone IDC terminals and not 110 IDC terminals
110 tool can only be used for 110 and not krone

both tools can be used on terminals marked as KATT ( a combination of Krone and ATT110)

90 % of RJ45 type IDC terminations on general sale in NZ are 110
100% of BT type IDC terminations in NZ are Krone

Despite the Trademe descriptions - The general rule is that is the tool has a scissor action to cut the wires its designed to fit Krone - if it has a removeable double ended blade it is designed for 110
