I'm busy setting up OpenWRT on my router at the moment and have run into an issue where the 5Ghz radio won't come up when my regulatory domain is set to NZ.

It works when set to AU and US, just not NZ.

2.4Ghz radio works fine set to NZ.

My question is, what channels does NZ license for 5Ghz wifi? (Not just the frequencies, the channel corresponding channel numbers would be great!)

I just want to check to see which ones my router is going to let me use.

EDIT: See picture below for which channels are disabled... I'm sure all these were enabled using the stock firmware.

Basically all of them, however some are reserved only for indoor use, and many require DFS

Hmmm, thanks for that. So then what is DFS?

Might have to load up some other firmware to see if it works fine there. Can't work out why on earth they would be disabled. I thought Australia licensed the Wifi channels similarly to NZ.

It appears all the "DFS" ones are disabled currently under the AU regulatory domain, so what I'm seeing is correct for the AU domain I guess?

Just need to find a way to bring it up under NZ.

DFS on Wireless APs detects radar and gets away from that channel so as to not interfere.

Check out this good reference on 5GHz frequencies in NZ.

Dfs isn't supported when I last tried to get openwrt to do anything useful. And on stock firmware which supported it all that seemed to happen was the wifi took forever to come up.

Also when set to nz I couldn't get 40mhz working. Think I ended up on Korea or Singapore to get that to work.

Just leave it set to AU and manually set the channels
Dont leave it on auto as it may pick something that isnt legal in the US like 2.4ghz channel 13 which is legal here but many laptops and devices wont use.
