I have two wires going into my master phone jack one with white brown black and yellow other with blue green white and red. needs to be reconnected but don't no what is what please help

It all depends on what combinations were orginaly connected (age of connection etc)
but the standard combinations would be

Yellow/Black on one and Red/White on the other.

First reattach the yellow/black to slots 2 & 5 and check for service - if none try white/brown.

Use must use a 'Krone' tool or a clone of one to reconnect.

Q. Is it a Master Jkpt ie has a M embosed on the lower right at the front? or just the first jkpt and is a 2 wire jkpt and has a 2 embossed or nothing on it? - as this makes a diffrence as to which slots you can use to attach the other cable.

It has a m on the frount I hace also tried those combinations but still nothing tho I do not have the tool you mentioned is there a way to do it without it

A tool is the only recommended way to punch down wires. You could try a very thin bladed screwdriver or knife but run a very high risk of damaging the connector with this approach.

I have been using a very small screw driver but to no luck would it be cheaper to buy the things I need or just get someone to come have a look

Im nt sure that jack was working or not but after the wires disconnected none of the jacks in the house work now

Sounds to me like you should get someone in to fix up your wiring... If you're in Auckland/Hamilton or abouts try coffeebaron on this forum.

If you really are willing to give it a shot yourself, get to a Jaycar and buy a punch down tool, try different pairs as suggested until something works.

Hi Wangtong,
you should read 48 volts dc if testing with a meter, (thats 48v and a -48v ) per each working leg of your line.

Or just connect bare wires from a phone and you should be able to hear a dialtone when you get both wires paired up.

Master jacks are a bit obsolete now, but if you change to a newer jack then you need matching new jacks all around the house.

Time to find a new industry!

You may not need to change all jacks.

If you take the master out you lose the ringer capacitor that was 3rd wired to the secondary jacks. The 1st gen 2 wire jacks all had their own capacitor to compensate. It has been so long since telephones that use those capacitors have been sold that 2 wire jacks don't have the capacitor now.

Dont they sell those tools at the Warehouse?

I needed to get me one a few years ago because we were remodelling our kitchen and had to move the jackpoint. Basically just rewired the same way and it works.
