I have a TP-LINK TD-W8980 w. firmware 0.6.0 1.3 v000e.0 Build 131012 Rel.51720n.
I'ts about a day old and i'm already having issues with it. First off my Pc is in the worst spot in the house and has about -80dbl reception to wi-fi. this is just a temporary measure untll i'm wired up with gigabit ethernet, thus the new router. But i've been having trouble connecting to wireless. I've disabled 5Ghz and stuck to 2.4Ghz, on 11n only and I'm at a point where i can ping the router fine, until i try to get internet access through any application on my pc. the packets then either time out or jump to 500-3000+ ms delay. The connection on my macbook air is significantly more stable, but still jumping from 1-500ms even when its within a couple of meters. Do i just have a faulty router or does anyone have any other suggestions? Oh and to make matters more confusing it was working the night before, seemingly ok.

Thanks

You've really answered your own question.

-80 is a poor signal. If you want 2.4Ghz WiFi that works you need to improve this for a start.

Yea it wasn't the reception. I did a hard reset and it seemed to fix itself. In the last couple of days i've run Ethernet so no future problems
