Help, After review here and elsewhere bought one of these.  After using and liking it I bought 4 WD RED 3TB to last me a few years.  I followed the instructions and removed the first drive as instructed.  After 2 hours synchronizing and it got to 12% rebuilding it went inaccessible and all drives inactive.  They all show as healthy.  All lights on the unit are steady no flashing as when synchronizing or accessing etc.
So, is it possible to recover or accept its a lost cause.
Do I factory reset and start afresh and hope will be reliable infuture
Or do I go back to my WHS 2011 with stablebits drivepool which was at least reliable.   I mainly went with the Asustor to save space, but if you have to start from scratch again to upgrade a hard drive or a hard drive failure then I would rather sacrifice the space and use WHS 2011 machine.

I havent tried to turn off the Asustor and restart yet to see if it will recover.  Want to wait and see opinions first as I am not experienced with all the ins and outs of NAS.

You paid a premium price for that box which comes with pretty good backup support. I'd be on the phone/email to the support team ASAP. You may find any incorrect suggestions from users to assist diagnosing leading to them washing their hands of it.

It may be as simple as it only syncing to the size of the other disks (1/3rd capacity) and re-activating/resizing.. but support would tell you for sure.

Thanks. I had decided to bite the bullet and restarted and so far so good. It is synching and rebuilding the array. At 2% after 30 minutes, so fingers crossed it doesnt stop this time.

hmm, maybe will be better to get WHS 2011 running again.   This is working so far and it says 9 hours remaining.  So that means 40 hours to replace the disks and cant use it in the meantime. Just checked and definitly cant access it.  WHS 2011 with drivepool was quicker.   So also should check whether Whs2011 with 4 data disks and os and backup disk uses much more power than Asustor with 4 disks.
Looks like compromise between device size and power consumption.  Not the best cant access data for a few days though

okay out it goes. back to whs 2011.  got to 14% and it failed again.  So will put home server together again then at the least will be able to test the disk in case it is a faulty disk.  Bought 4 new WD REDs 3 TB

Update.  Looks like faulty WD WD30 Red drive.  Put it in WHS2011 and stablebits scanner kept saying unreadable sectors around 1000 or so.  So I downloaded WDDig and ran and it didnt even show up. Checked in bios and never showed up.  Changed Sata cable and didnt show, after a couple of starts it showed up.  Ran the diagnosis and under SMART it said not available.  Put 2TB drive back on same cable and all fine.  Put the 3TB and no go.  Also computer very slow to boot with that drive in.  WDDIAG wont test that drive. it lists it, says smart not available and wont run the test.
So it appears faulty and trying to sync with Asustor brought the whole NAS down.   So  maybe should test hard drive on computer before putting into NAS to upgrade capacity
