Have had some high data use going on lately so I installed DU Meter to see what was going one. I am a bit puzzled with the results I am getting. DU Meter is showing that loading a web page (Chrome or Firefox) uses between 0.5 and 2.5 MB of data, is that normal? Is there a good, free tool I can  use to monitor data usage and where its coming from/going to?

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Please define "high".
0.5 to 2.5MB per page is not at all unusual.

Best thing to do would be monitor it from the network side.
Get a gargoyle modem or research Open WRT.

Has been ticking over about 250MB a day with about 30-60 min use a day of normal web browsing ie NZ herald or Metservice and a bit of Geekzone.. Modem is from Orcon so probably cant do much with that :-)

250MB a day is my idea of ultra-light usage.
I don't think that you have a problem :)

Each to their own.

250MB per day is like, 1 youtube video 20 web pages.

BTW metservice does have quite high amounts of content on the pages due to those graphs.

Are any of your websites including TV or video? How many computers in your house, do the lights on your router flash when theres nobody using the computers? Thats an easy way to tell which computer to investigate.

I agree 7GB a month is pretty average, you probably just need to look at a 25GB internet plan. Common web sites have been getting heavier with more advertising and dynamic content than there used to be.

Time to find a new industry!
