I potentially have some people moving into my house for a few months while they look for their own house, and they have an existing internet contract (I"m not sure who with) which they don't want to break. I of course already have an internet connection in the house

Is it possible for them to plug their modem in alongside mine and have them both work?

Or maybe should they be able to put their connection on hold for a few months?

Any ideas would be appreciated :)

Not without paying a new connection fee ~$180 for another line to be installed in the house, if they explained the situation they may be able to put it on hold but possibly will have to pay a reconnection fee anyway when they move into another place

They would have to talk with their ISP as to what is the best solution as to putting account s on hold etc takeing into consideration - timeing (how long) , cost of a connection (line installation costs)

You can only have one xDSLmodem at any one time, on a single copper phone line, which will only have one account attached to it - for two connections a secound physical cuircuit will need to be installed

She's contacted her ISP (Vodafone) who were unable to put her contract on hold, so we're going to get the $180 connection that jnimmo mentioned

Fixed line connections can't be put on hold as a 3rd party vendor still needs to be paid per month per line

make sure they are not sharing the wiring from any old-style internal wiring (untwisted wires) because they will both interfere with each other due to crosstalk. Should be ok if both connections use different wires on a Cat5e cable such as when a master filter gets installed. You probably don't needfilter on the second line unless using it with phone as well.

Time to find a new industry!
