Hi, a friend of mine bought a vb104w off trademe for as a VDSL modem (bigpipe), however after receiving it he has found that he cannot log into the web interface, it has a password as expected. We have used google and tried all the defaults (admin/admin admin/Password, user/user 1234/1234....) to no avail. Resetting the modem does nothing either (the lights blink and go out, and then come back on), and all the above passwords still don't work. I have also tried the passwords on the telnet interface, and so far none of them have worked there either (guess they are the same as the web interface ones). The modem/router does have a WIFI connection broadcasting, with an SSID of 'Slingshot Home WIFI 377', and we have tried connecting to the wifi by using the WPS button, but WPS must have been disabled.

So... any ideas on how to access this, or should we go run this one over and buy a new one?

Asked the seller yet?

If the seller doesn't know, asked for a refund?

Presumably Slingshot supplied it - might pay to check that it was the seller's to sell, and doesn't actually belong to Slingshot.

Slingshot may also be able to reset it, or provide a password.

Hi,

We have emailed the seller, and they think it was admin/admin, and have emailed them back saying it didn't work, and since then, no reply.

Other than the SSID name being slingshot, there is no other info on it that says it is slingshot, it just has VB104W written on it on the side. There is also no password on the bottom like most ISP supplied modems have. I will email slingshot anyway to see if they know anything about it.

According to the manual, admin/admin user/user and support/support are the 3 default accounts.

EDIT: Hold the reset button for at least five seconds with the power connected to hard reset.

According to this long thread, most likely Slinghsot supplied, and locked down by them. Might have to contact Slingshot.

you say you have reset the modem, but have you tried a factory reset?

Usually this involves sticking a pin into a hole somewhere on the modem (usually near the power button) and holding it in for 5 seconds or so. The lights will usually start blinking like crazy for a few seconds, then the modem will restart and be reset to factory default username/password.

If it's locked to slingshot you may need to contact them about unlocking it.
Maybe remind them that device locking is looked down on by the commerce. Mobile companies only get away with it because they provide an option to unlock it. (even if it is for a fee)

Ultimately, if slingshot won't help, then you can turn to the trademe eller and complain (unless he said it was locked to slingshot before he sold it to you, in which case you are screwed)

Hold reset for 45 seconds to be safe while powered on, If no luck hold reset while powering on.

Like we all stated: admin/admin

4.2 Logging in to the DSL Router
To log in to the DSL router, do as follows.
Step 1 Open a Web browser on your computer.
Step 2 Enter http://192.168.1.1 (default IP address of the DSL router) in the
address bar. The login page appears.
Step 3 Enter the user name and the password. The default username and
password are admin and admin. The username and password of the
common user are user and user. The username and password of the
support account are support and support.

If you do a ipconfig what is your IP address? What is the default gateway? Do you get n 169.x.x.x? If so assign one like 192.168.1.222 and default gateway of 192.168.1.1 . Does it work then?
If not, Poked modem.

There's a suggestion in the thread linked above that Slingshot use a custom firmware on them, in which case the default passwords in the generic user manual may not be the same.

Cant believe that they would use the mac address as a password on it.

richms: Cant believe that they would use the mac address as a password on it.

why's that?

when i got mine the password was actually admin, then i told slingshot of this anomaly and it soon changed to the MAC.

you can still change the password if you want just like any other modem.

the OP might want to double check the firmware version, its listed under status. they recently updated the firmware on these modems to fix some pretty major port forwarding issues (it didn't work at all)

the new one is GUN4.HT128A-C_30A-EI-R1B032-NZ.EN_2T2R-SL
