need a new router as our current one keeps locking up and kicking off our mobile devices off of the wifi...especially wifeys galaxy s3.
whats a good sub $200 router(ADSL2?) that can handle at least 6 wireless devices without shuffling them around on the dhcp map?

we are in the process of building a new house and the new house will have some sort of 16 or 24 port switch so needs to work in with that, (suggestions on a switch would be good too. :) cheers

Any modem will do what you need there.
Maybe you can lengthen the DHCP lease and it wont get shuffled around so much. Anyone complaining about that has poor knowledge of DHCP.

i admit my dhcp knowledge is limited. we tried setting static addresses for all our devices but that didnt work. for example if wifey goes to work and then comes home again . her mobile wont automatically rejoin the wifi.

Where you located?, Are you installing all this yourself?

Maybe for the devices that dont need a static lease assign them addresses between 192.168.1.50-192.168.1.200
The rest should be static in that range. if you assign a static IP within the DHCP range you can have issues with some silly modems.

hey thanks for that. i'll try the 50+ assignments and see what that does, but TBH i am OVER this router. it used to be fine but is playing up something cronic at the moment.

Most good routers will allow you to tie the MAC address to a permanently supplied DHCP address, the draytek 2710 can do it - not sure about the 130.

What are you currently using?

just got the standard dynalink rta 1025 that came from slingshot. its been fine for years in regard to the wireless, but last 6 months has been trouble

What is your need to have the mobile devices getting given static IP's in the home network?

I would say the Netgear DGND series is not a bad place to start. The Asus RT range seems to get good reviews too.

You have the feature to reserve an ip address based on MAC address in your current router.

Go to dhcp and reserved ip

Type your MAC address and the ip address you'd like for your computer - each time you connect you'll get the same address.

Just remember your WiFi card and internal network card have different MAC addresses.

well for some reason the router only seems to allow 4 or (five max)wireless devices at a time. if wifey goes to work, some other device takes her phones place and she cant get wifi when she returns...we have to reset the router to get it to connect. we made NO changes to it when this started happening out of the blue. sometime when i come home, my windows work phone boots her off the network. idont think we have ever had all devices connected at one time. (3 phones, 2 laptops, a tablet and printer)

Have you tried changing your WiFi frequency - could be interference?

Even poor WiFi units should accept 10 connections
