Hey all :-) So, obviously, I'm getting the DNS server error.

Hardware information:
laptop - lenovo y410p
running windows 8
rounter - dlink
modem - motorola
isp - comcast
I don't think any of the hardware info is particularly relevant but I thought I'd list it just in case.

I'm currently connected to my neighbors wifi.

Troubleshooting attempts:
1 - unplugged the modem and router & restarted computer
2 - ipconfig /renew
3 - ipconfig /flushdns
4 - tried to connect with my phone but my phone has been having wifi issues at the house for a few weeks now so that wasn't really a hopeful attempt

Really talk to me like I have Average Jane's computer knowledge :)

Are you connected to this router via WiFi?

Have you tried a different laptop connected to your router to see if it shows the same problem?

Any antivirus/firewall installed recently on your laptop?

#3 is continuously flashing
#6 is infrequently flashing (ie sometimes it flashes as much as #3 then stops for a bit)

I used to get similar problems with a cheap ADSL modem that I had some time ago - ISP supplied. The modem basically would give out it's address as DNS server but fail to forward.

My work around was to set DNS manually to Google DNS or OpenDNS.

You can do this in your network adapter settings and still get DHCP service.

Google is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

OpenDNS is 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

You should probably try this anyway to eliminate the modem / dhcp service as a fault.

Didn't work but my neighbor's Comcast is out too so we think there's a line down and are contacting Comcast. Mischief Managed. :-) Thanks for the suggestions!
