Hi, i have a TP Link TD-W8970 modem.   Over ethernet file transfer averages 110MB/sec and for last few months I have had it wifi avered 11MB/sec.
I have done changes to computers and still been the same.  Then around 2 weeks ago with no changes wifi transfer has dropped to 1MB/s and if very lucky 2MB/s and boy does it seem slow now.  I am still new to networking but been with computers since my Atari 400 in 1981.  Just havent had networking.  No changes made to modem no firmware updates. Have restarted modem but not done factory reset.
I also have a Netgear DGND4000 modem so decided to try that. Exactly same result.   Have no idea why it has slowed so much.

I live in a quiet street 4 houses within 100 meters and on network connection around 9 wifi signals are visible.

Those are some pretty impressive speeds - your Ethernet transfers of 110MB is nearly line rate at 880mbit/s and likewise the wifi rate is very high.

You mention that the wifi rate has dropped, has the wired rate dropped as well? How are you doing the testing?

Do you have access to a wifi analyser utility that can show you what channels all the networks are transmitting on and what strength your signal is?

Someone new might be on the same channel as you.

Matt.

Start with the easy bits...
First check to see how many wi-fi transmitters are on your WiFi channel.
Download Inssider 3 FREE (avoid version 4 which is not free) and run it.
If you find other strong transmissions on your channel, switch channels on your router.

Sudden drop like that would more likely be interference, or a change in an aerial than a problem at the router that a factory reset will fix. (still possible.. but very unlikely)

General wifi advice: I'd check that no-one is using the same wifi channel as you.
Use channel 1, 6 or 11 if possible, and whichever the other wifi networks around the place are NOT on.
Check a short range link
Make sure your router is set to use 802.11n or Mixed mode. Not B or G only as these will limit your speeds.
Make sure there isn't a microwave/big metal sheet appeared between your client device and your router.

edit: and what sideface said :)

Hope this helps
Good luck

11MB/sec is a great transfer rate over wifi.

I just go by the Windows 7 and 8 file transfer speed indication.   Yeah I liked that speed would even be happy half that than what it is now.

I will have a look at what other wifi around on what channels and look for what Tim said.   I did search using the search function but never spotted it.

Thanks for all the suggestions

Video senders will hammer the thruput but you will still show a good rate on the connection.

yeah I have the bbcode but I dont have a paste option to paste it into the reply.

Anyway tonight something weird happened.  My connection disconnected and wouldnt connect not even my own network.  I looked on the available connections and there was one called Angel_63
which was as strong as my signal.   I just couldnt connect while it was there.    I restarted my modem and the Angel-63 was no longer there and my connection was able to connect again.  So why that angel was so strong dont know.  Checked my modem settings and still okay.  Probably coincidence as just checked and Angela is back but showing stronger signal than mine.
