Okay - I just heard of bluetooth from my boyfriend who has a bluetooth enabled cell phone. He wants to use his phone to connect to my computer to download information off of the internet. I have two desktops, one laptop and a printer that run off of the same wirless network. So if I understand correctly in order for him to connect to my network I need to either bluetooth on one of my desktops or some sort of adapter on my broadband wirless router (which is D-Link) Sorry kinda confused on how this all works. Just need to know how we can get him to connect to my network....

Thanks

You're right. Bluetooth is similar to wi-fi because they are both wireless technologies. Wi-fi is intended to be used as a networking infrastrucutre, while Bluetooth is used to replace wires between personal devices.

You'll need a Bluetooth adapter on your computer to allow other devices to connect to it. Even so you'll have to decide what you want to do. Some mobile phones will allow you to synchronise your contacts, calendar and other information without any cables. You might be able to access a cellular network like GPRS from your computer via your mobile phone (while on the road for example).

Other users could be a PDA (like a Pocket PC) accessing your computer to synchronise information, or to access the Internet.

To understand a little bit more read this article. You can also download a multimedia presentation where you can see different uses of Bluetooth.
