I want to extend ethernet between two buildings about 200m apart, over existing copper phone cable. Can two Vigor DV130s be configured to do this and if so, then how? I "read" the manual but I certainly didn't understand it. Or can you suggest a better or cheaper way? I don't need VDSL speed. Thanks!

AFAIK you can;t use 2x ADSL or VDSL devices to talk to each other over phone lines. You need a DSLAM (or similar) device to be the 'host' end and a standard xDSL router at the other end.

On one of my suppliers web sits I can see a 24 Port VDSL2 IP DSLAM for abour $3000 - perhaps the sort of device that might be used in a motel to deliver broadband to a basic VDSL Router in each room if it is impractical to reqire the motel units with Cat5 cable.

Is there line of sight between the buildings? I can sort you out a 150mbps 5GHz radio link that will easily travel a kilometer at full speed at under $200 per end (plus any mounting brackets). That price includes PoE injectors so you only need to run one Cat5 cable to the radio units.

I could not find any info that the Vigor modem you reference supports this configuration.

Interesting.... I had not come across that before now.

Local specialist network equipment distributor Snappernet has a Netsys NV-600L and it's companion Netsys NV-600A (both in stock) for faster delivery or local support. VDSL2 support for up to 2.5km, so you should get pretty reasonable speed over 200m.

You need some VDSL2 extenders from Snappernet - the 2 models listed above. You'll get 100Mbps symmetrical over 300m with these units.

You've got a few options

- Private point to point VDSL bridge
- Point to point wifi bridge, Ubiquit stuff is good/cheap
- 100m cat5e/6cable > ethernet repeater > 100m of cat5e/6 cable
- 200m of cat5e/6 cable with a switch at each end will actually probably still work at 100Mbit/s if you're lucky
