Ahoy,
This thread relates to my other one in the Telecom forum. That one was about a VDSL installation which has since been completed successfully. However I've got a couple of little niggles re-setting up my home network.

This is the router:

http://www.netcommwireless.com/product/vdsl/nf4v

Network setup is:
One desktop, connected to router via Ethernet
Two laptops connected to router via Wifi

- With my last ADSL router (a Netcomm NB6Plus4Wn) I had port forwarding setup, so I could connect remotely to my desktop using TightVNC when not at home. That doesn't work as I need to re-setup port forwarding, but the instructions aren't overly helpful, and it looks nothing like the setup I had on my old router; I was planning on copying-and-pasting the settings but that won't work
- MAC filtering. On the ADSL router I had specific MAC addresses that were allowed to connect, and those ones only to prevent unauthorised usage on my network. With this one I have re-entered the MAC addresses. However when I enable the filtering, the laptops lose their internet access. They're still on the network, but can't browse any sites. With it disabled, internet browsing is restored. That one has me stumped - is there a tickbox maybe that I've missed?

Hopefully someone has a similar setup and has it working and can assist? Thanks in advance.

I did but found the instructions confusing :(
That page only explains how to update the firmware?

1) Use teamviewer. No port forwarding required and is better than VNC in every way - assuming this is a windows PC.

2) MAC filtering is a false sense of security. You should simply implement WPA2 with AES.

so you clicked FAQ/self helped tab and opened the 2 PDF files pertaining to port forwarding and MAC address filtering?

they seem rather strait forward

Sorry, yes...I read the guides but got a bit lost. Teamviewer would be okay, but doesn't it require both parties to accept the connection?
And yes, this is an XP machine.

As I said the MAC filtering part is setup fine, but when it's activated, all internet connectivity is lost. When I disable it, it works. Odd?

Jase2985: where did you get lost?

Oops, I didn't look at the guides, only the whole manual. Will have a look at the guides and let you know. Cheers :)

Edit: I've setup the MAC filtering correctly but will go through it again.

The filtering seems to be working now (I have those security options mentioned enabled as well). Still wondering about the Teamviewer option though - if I'm not at home, can I set it up to automatically accept the connection with no human intervention, or does someone need to accept it? If the latter, that won't work for my situation.

Update: I...er...updated TeamViewer on my laptop and desktop, setup remote access on my desktop (just in the process of rebooting to test it fully) and it seems to work quite well, touchwood. If this works after a restart I'll probably give TightVNC the boot, unless there's anything it can do that TeamViewer can't? :)

Teamviewer can  be set to start on boot and is live before you log in.

You need to set up 'Unattended Access' and a Teamviewer account is very handy too because it saves all your remote PC's so you can log in to Teamviewer any where in the world and still have your list of PC's.

Sounds good. Thanks chevrolux, I'll take a look.
Cheers to both of you for your help :)
