I stupidly inserted the adapter into a side usb port in my Dell 1501 notebook before installing adapter software/drivers. Computer locked up. I got it going again and uninstalled  software. I don't want it to lock up again. What do you recommend before attempting to install again?

Try following the instructions, and install the software first.

Are you installing this on vista? If so is it vista compatible, if not then you may need to download the correct software first, if it is available.

Also some hardware, if it is faulty, can lock up a machine so that the only way to use the PC again is to restart.
