I have a problem with Astrill and the windows firewall that neither myself nor Astrill tech support can solve. When the windows firewall is turned off all is well, Astrill works fine. When it's turned on I can't connect to any Astrill server.

Astrill is configured to use TCP : 443, though UDP works fine as well - and neither work when the firewall is activated. I've added an outgoing firewall rule as follows. Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you using the client?

I just configured it with default windows VPN setup.

I too had issues at one point, Astrill spent approx 10 hours with multiple attempts via a remote desktop to get it working.
In the end I re-installed windows anyway, and the problem went away.
Cannot remember what the problem was exactly tho.

Yes I'm using the Astrill client. I didn't know windows did VPN natively - got a tutorial or setup guide handy?

I think that might be one way to do it, but it's a big hammer to use. I have so much running on the PC it'd be a PITA. It's due eventually... maybe at Christmas.

Does anyone know the connect string format for connecting to Astrill? Do you just use one of their servers IP addresses? A screenshot if anyone's done it would be awesome. Does it VPN your whole internet connection?

Is there any other free windows VPN software I could try that works with Astrill?

Ok I've worked it out. I used the windows VPN client using PPTP as described by Astrill for Android, adapter for windows, here. Windows VPN instructions here. I used a server from the Astrill list here. I unblocked ports as specified here. Now Astrill works natively, and with the Windows firewall turned on - it was a client software problem, not a networking problem :)
