I have a linksys adsl modem AM300. I was able to access the web config utlity of the modem at ip 192.168.1.1 .... Recently i connected a linksys wireless router Wrt54G to the modem and connected my PC via to the router with an ethernet cable. Since my router has the same default address of 192.168.1.1 I am able to access the web utilty of the router but unable to access the web based utility of the modem even after the modem has been assigned another Ip address ie: 192.168.1.13 The Dhcp server of the modem has been disabled and the router is now acting as the dhcp server. My pcs is assigned 192.168.100 and i am connected to port 1 of the router. how can i access the web based utilty of the modem in this configuration.??

The PC IP address is incomplete... If it's 192.168.100.[number] then you won't be able to access until they are in the same subnet.

Routers by definition route packets between subnets. If the LAN interface of the router is 192.168.1.1/24 and the modem connects to the router's WAN interface, then the modem should be on a different subnet, e.g., 192.168.0.1/24 (24 means subnet mask of 24 bits or 255.255.255.0). The router's WAN interface should then be set to 192.168.0.2/24 with a gateway of 192.168.0.1.

thanks for the prompt reply. In the web config utility under the network setup tab there are settings for Local IP address and subnet mask only. It does not tell anything about how to set on the WAN side and LAN side of the router. could you please explain me that..... and also am i right to disable the DHCP server on the modem after the router has been connected ??
The other thing about my link sys modem is that since I have disabled the DHCP server on the modem i am not able to access it by directly connecting it to my PC via ethernet cable ... I have to reset my modem to deflault settings everytime I need to connect to my modem.

Page 13 of the WRT54G manual shows the WAN (Internet) interface setup.

If you have disabled DHCP on the modem with an address of 192.168.0.1/24 then you have to manually configure the computer with an IP address on the same subnet, e.g., 192.168.0.20/24, to be able to connect to the modem.
