Given up on the crappy Who-Are-We Vodafone modem, which doesn't retain manual settings, and requires a DSL restart every second day.

Why are there so few decent offerings in the VDSL2 modem market, and why are the few available so stupidly expensive - they're usually old 802.11n tech, nothing special in terms of features and they still want $300+...

Most ISP's sell their modems and some have better specs you have listed for less than what you have stated

there are also the ASUS range of modems out there and they again have better specs than you listed and for generally less than you have listed

where have you looked?

Zyxel, Draytech, Asus... All rather old and over-priced. Have a soft spot for TP-Link, so asked them about a release date for the TD-9980, but haven't had a reply.

What modem do Vodafone hand out? Don't they give you a HG659 or is that on UFB only? The HG659 is a great router, really solid.

You seem very keen on having a all in one device.

that does limit you a little.

what usage scenario is your network based around?

Cant say i have seen many of the Vodafone VDSL routers dying every day, so i suspect your situation is a special case - are you hammering it with too many P2P connections by chance?

VDSL is a Premium service, and you will be paying a premium on any Modems compared to an ADSL equivalent.

Also I wouldn't go for an all-in-one if you want solid syncs (apart from HG659, thats a nice router) and just get a VDSL modem and a router.

The Zyxel and Netcomm and Asus offerings are both good.

Maybe you need to take a step back and actually define what your actual requirements are, because the reality these days is if you're somebody who sees the products on the market as poor is probably looking at the wrong products, and should really be looking an individual options for a modem, router and wireless. The reality is there isn't (and never will be) an all in one unit that will be able to meet all requirements.

+1 for the wireless issues. Only had the router since Saturday but today (Thursday) it has been flaky and needing restarts. Although, 5GHZ worked fine.

good place to get VDSL modems IMHO is PBTech
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?p=search&sf=vdsl+modem&o=price&d=n

Netcomm NF4V is good for an 'all in one', and under $200 (that's what I use)

Draytek 130 is excellent if you just want the modem and have separate router. Its around $150
