Hi guys, currently i have ethernet cables running from the modem, under the floor and up again to 2 rooms. We will be putting down new carpet soon so i want to tidy it up and have rj45 pack points in the wall.

Are the below two products all i need to acheive this? (not including the cable itself and tools)

http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=ITPPPUTC2

http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=ITPFPC6002&name=DYNAMIX-Cat6-Keystone-RJ-45-Jack-for-110-Face-Plat

I dont need a housing unit or anything too?

Any other tips?

Thanks

Is the cable solid or stranded core?

What you have listed is good, You'll also want a flushbox  e.g http://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/electrical_hardware/electrical_outlets_fittings/elto_flush_box_162408/

S
o that your Faceplate has something to screw into.

Edit: or http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=ITPFPMBOX3 if you don't want to cut into the wall

Are you using Cat6 cables? - if so the DYNAMIX Cat6 Keystone RJ-45 Jack that you listed will work well.
If you have Cat5 cables you will need Cat5 jacks.

Isnt cat6 backward compatible with cat5 though? SO i could get cat6 and use cat5 cable if required?

Not so much "backward" compatible as "sort of" compatible. Actually you are probably talking about Cat5e since Cat5 is obsolete. Cat6 jacks are usually designed to fit slightly thicker wires, and cost more too so no point putting more expensive jacks onto cheaper cable since the whole system gets reduced to the rating of the cat5.

The keystone jacks and plates you looked at are ok, but a bit tacky. Better to get ones that match the power outlets already in your house so usually PDL or Clipsal etc, and then get jacks that fit the type of plate you have. PDL plate require a little converter clip, while Clipsal/HPM/AMDEX whatever require "modclip" style jacks. Keep in mind that modclip jacks don't like coming off once fitted into the plate, so check you have it right way up before pushing them in.

I have plenty of used ones of both types if you want to pay for courier.

You need a punchdown tool of some kind, and decide whether you will put a patch panel in a cabinet or just get a quad faceplate etc to go on the wall near the modem/router.
