Using the guide from here, I am able to pair the Zire 72 with an O2 Xphone and establish a GPRS connection

now is there anyway to use the Messages app on the Zire 72 to send SMSes and MMSes?

I can't comment upon BT but it shouldn't be too diffferent...

With my T300, I have an Infrared to GSM Phone connection set up. Then I can just use either the SMS or Messages apps to retrieve by clicking 'Check Now' - it makes the connection with no more fuss.

You shouldn't even need to worry about the GPRS network settings for this one...
