OK thinking of upgrading from cheapo router to either:

This is for ADSL2 use, can't get VDSL or fibre here yet.

Any one recommend one above the other, we can have quite a few wireless clients at one time in our house, currently have downstairs the free Netcomm NB604N from TrustPower who we just signed up with to save on internet. Also have a TPLink TD-W8950ND for wireless use upstairs, but often needs restarting. Thinking I would set the new one as the modem & the TrustPower one as just an AP. It's wireless seems pretty fine to me so far.

ps: I've found twice with NetComm routers, I think, (with this ISP and with my previous one) that if I try and upload to say SmugMug it locks up after jsut one or two small say 1MB photos, totally unusable. Is there a setting I could try that would stop this happening, thinking must be a NAT thing or something to do with the ISP? This is partly why I want to try another solution.

Ild personally go for the ASUS..

Last dratek i had from the 2700 range (2710ne) preformed badly, even on a 2mbit line.

Have only heard good things about the ASUS so far.

I vote for the ASUS - I've been using one for two years with no problems.
Excellent user interface.
Good wireless performance.

I've seen a lot of commercial VoIP implimentations using Draytek for their greater stability. We use them extensively and value the reliability over the extra 10% speed you might get from another router.

+1 for Draytek.

While they typically sync slightly lower than others they are rock solid.

I'm always surprised people recommend Draytek, the ones I have looked at all had flawed software and were of poor build quality. Asus produces solid equipment with good software and has good community support. Go with the Asus.

Draytek make good hardware that I'd recommend but it's certainly not without it's issues. I've got a couple of instances of Draytek's suffering with NAT session table issues with 50+ phones connected.

Thanks for info, notice the Draytek doesn't have the 5GHZ frequency like the ASUS, but I'm mainly concerned for wifi performance through walls etc, so not sure if that will be important. Did you find it's good through a few walls etc and with several users?

aghhhh can't decide....both here and online the reviews for either model seem mixed especially in terms of reliability and issues (though more issues with the Asus it seems, but maybe this is due to old firmware or something).

I use the DSL-N55U (model down) in two locations and works very well. When I first got it last year it had a couple of stability issues but they were resolved in a firmware update a while ago. I find the Wifi performance very good (even going through four walls).

I had the base model Asus and even that was good. It has been doing duty at parents in laws house and has been rock solid unlike their old d-link. No more calls and complaining about how their internet is bad, slow and drops out. I would definitely get another one.

I can recommend the Asus. Haven't had a single issue with it on Vdsl.

Have you looked at the D-Link dsl-2890al?

Same price as the Asus, ADSL 2 Only (no VDSL) and Fibre ready.
The kicker is you also get Wireless ac and a free wireless ac adaptor by sending off a card.

I have one and:
ADSL - Rock solid
Wifi - 12 wireless devices in the house. (2 laptops, 2 Xboxes, 3 tablets, 3 cameras, 2 phones)
All device are N, a couple of Xboxes I use for media streaming work fine - even HD.

If you buy their cameras as well, it is one button setup and there is an app you can control your router and cameras.

OK thanks for the replies. Yes I did see the D-Link one. I've decided to go with the Asus, about to go buy it...just down the road :)
