Hi there,

I'm trying to find a small 10 port gigabit switch (would prefer one with some smarts in it like VLANs, port trunking etc), I use a Cisco SLM2008 inside my comms box at the moment, but it's 2 ports short for what I want.

Needs to by physically small, and not much bigger than the SLM2008.

Any ideas or pointers ?

Thanks

Mark

Generally switches have ports in groupings of 4 or 8.  I have seen the occasional 12 port switch but chances are you'll need to buy a 16 port model.

Here is an example of a smallish 16 port switch.

You might be best to buy a cheap small 5 or 8 port switch to hang less important devices off and keep the more important gear on your existing switch.

InstallerUFB: SLM2016

Unfortunately that switch is a 1U rackmount, about 4 times wider than the SLM2008 :-)

Actually just found that Pricespy have a nice section on switches which lets me filer by port count .. will give it a whirl and see what is out there.

Thanks.

Does it need to be anything flash or just a basic Layer 2 switch?
Maybe a dlink like this.

What about the Cisco SG300-10

They are a 10 port Gigabit switch which are layer 2 and Layer 3 (You can select which in the GUI)
