Well I mean you didn't seriously believe that Telecom/Spark is actually interested in adhering to features desired for a "niche" market.

Nothing more than a minor publicity stunt.



Reality:
- Cheaper to import some cheap brand router in bulk.
- Features on the cheap brands are enough for most people.
- Most customers probably have less than four Fast Ethernet or Gigabit devices.

It wasn't a stunt.

I bagging the idea from day 1 as an incredibly dumb idea and reckoned it would never happen, but the people inside Telecom involved on this certainly didn't agree with me at the time. They certainly were keen to see such a product hit the market.

It died because they would end up producing a $500 router that know one in NZ would buy because we don't value our internet.

Target market for that type of router is already using DD-WRT, TomatoUSB, etc on commodity hardware or a mikrotik
