I went through the Bluetooth Manager on my IPAQ 5450 and when I try to connect to the network access I a pop-up that says:

******
Connecting...
Connecting to: BT Network Access
Dialing from: Work
Using: Bluetooth Null Modem

Dialing 9,
*******

I'm using an IOGEAR USB dongle.

Thanks,
Bill

I'm not familiar with the IOGEAR USB dongle... Does it have a LAN Access profile? Can you tell us what the URL for this product?

The documentation doesn't secifically say that it allows a LAN access profile. I thought I read that it did...but I can't find where I read it.

Here the link: http://www.iogear.com/products/product.php?Item=GBU302

Active Sync works fine.

Thanks,
mrBill

It does... It says here how to do it:

"Please assure that the following settings are all checked. These settings must be checked in order to properly share the Internet connection. In order to get to the Advanced Settings screen, click on Settings at the Advanced Tab. Click on Settings. Verify on the Advanced Settings Screen that all items are checked. Once all settings are set and verified, the Internet Connection will be shared among up to seven (7) Bluetooth™ enabled devices."

Have a try with these instructions from their website...

I have the same problem with my iPAQ h5450. I followed the instructions, but I still get the "Bluetooth Null Modem... Dialing 9,"

The stupid "connection settings" in the iPAQ seem only to be for dial-up modems.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Are you guys using the Bluetooth Manager to connect, or just clicking the Internet Explorer link?

The default is to start a dial up connection, unless a network connection is already present.

You have to first establish the connection, than start PIE or Pocket Outlook...

I read the directions on IOGEAR site, thanks for finding them freitasm.

I'm Connected!!!

I've gone through this so many times. I hope that I'm beginning to remember my steps.

Here's a check list of things I had to do to get Bluetooth working on my h5450:

1. Rename the h5450 in two places.

a. start - settings - system - about - device id tab

b. start - settings - system - bluetooth - accessiblity tab

2. Make sure my computer is ready

a. Installed Bluetooth Software

b. Made sure that "Save Objects in Personal Information Mangers is checked" in the Bluetooth Configuration (Config found by right click the bluetooth logo in your task bar by the clock)

3. Shared my Computers NIC ( see freitasm. post above)

4. Checked in the "My Bluetooth Places"-> My Device and made sure Network Access service was started

5. Created a Bluetooth Active Sync connection on my h5450 in Bluetooth Manager (I signed in as a guest)

6. Created a Network Access connection in Bluetooth Manager "Explore a Bluetooth device" (null modem error may appear)

7. Created an Internet Access connection in Bluetooth Manager "Connect to the Internet" (null modem error may appear)

See if it works:

1. Connect via Active Sync using Bluetooth Manager

2. freitasm. - "You have to first establish the connection...start PIE or Pocket Outlook... ")

3. You may want to Connect via Internet Access in Bluetooth Manager (make sure the Icon turns green)

I hope this helps someone.

Well, that's all right... Three posts to say it's all good now is not a problem.

Thanks for the checklist, this is going to help a lot of people!

I have the same problem, and I think I try everything... I hav an iPaq 5450 and a Bluetooth adapter Belkin F8T003
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=200583&pcount=&Product_Id=134431
I open the bluetooth Manager and tell my pocket to exlpore a bluetooth device, and select Network Access, So I click on connect option and a "ballon" tells me:
Connecting...
Connectting to: BT Network Access
Dialing from: Home
Using: Bluetooth Null Modem
Dialing 001,1

I'm using Windows XP

This happens if:

  • ICS is not set correctly (the BT ethernet adapter must be 192.168.0.1) or
  • ICS is not set at all or
  • you have a personal firewall blocking localhost communications or
  • there's no DNS server in the BT ethernet adapter

To find the current DNS servers on your network, use Start | Run | CMD and enter the command ipconfig /all

    Hope this helps!

It would be good to find and download VxUtil and try PING some host using IP and using the name. Try pinging www.theregister.co.uk and 212.100.234.54

If PING returns ok with IP but not name, then you have a problem with DNS

You might want to change the Bluetooth adapter to have your DNS servers (10.44.0.4 and
    10.44.0.3).

Right-click My Network Places, right-click the Bluetooth Adapter and select TCP/IP. Click Properties and enter these servers in the DNS fields. Do not change the IP 192.168.0.1, it's correct.

    OK everything and try again.
