Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows how many wireless connections a Huawei HG659 wireless router can take?

We have one in the office and is seems the more connections we have then the harder is is to connect to.

I read that some Netgear routers have a 32 wireless connection limit per frequency band and I wonder if that's standard across most personal routers?

We have one of these at home with 5 wireless devices, and once a fortnight it stops accepting connections from some devices. I have to power the jolly thing off to resolve the issue. Brasses me off a bit. I'll replace it or set up a different a different wireless access point at some stage (but I shouldn't have to!).

We have 8 devices hanging off ours, seem to hold up Ok but I find I'm rebooting it incl the Vodafone TV box at least once a week.
I try to use 5ghz where possible.

I have one from Vodafone, wifi was most useless Ive ever come across - even with 2 devices it'd drop all the time, or connect but not allow any traffic until a reboot. Turned off the wifi and bought a Unifi instead. If youre in an office situation, Id highly recommend a 3rd party solution.

How about buying an access point or two and turning wireless off in the router.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

The router part of the HG659 is fine, its just the wifi that bit for me :) Unifi is around $125 and will plug straight into the 659.

$200 budget approved to buy a new router or AP.

People seem to be recommending the unity gear however it says you must install software in order to administer it "After the Ubiquiti UniFi server software is installed on a Mac or PC, the UniFi controller can be accessed through any device using a web browser" - Is this a requirement? This could be a deal breaker as our local machines are heavily locked down.

You use the software to do the configuration, but dosent need to be left running afterwards unless you want to take advantage of some of the other features (such as paid guest access etc IIRC)

I ended up grabbing a unifi AP. The management software wasn't overly intuitive but managed to get it all up and running and it seems pretty rock solid so far.
