G'day all,

I'm a Masters student at AUT here in Auckland, NZ, and I'm planning a small research project on mobile ad-hoc networks. The practical component of this will be creating ad-hoc networks of Wi-Fi enabled PDAs, and testing their performance in various real-world situations - around the city, on the harbour, the zoo, the museum, a Warriors game, out in the country, etc. This would be done between Easter and the end of June 2003.

Is anyone interested in participating in this research?
Or does anyone know of this sort of research being done before?

You can reply to this message, or e-mail me at bryhou80@aut.ac.nz.

Cheers

It sounds interesting. Do you have a plan for this you'd like to share in a personal (off records) basis?

I'm going to do a review of a public Wi-Fi provider in Wellington in the next couple of weeks, but couldn't find anything about ad hoc networks.

Thanks Mauricio,

I have a research proposal that I put forward to my supervisor. It gives a definition of mobile ad-hoc networks (MANets), who's using them, who's researching them, and an outline of my planned research and experiments.

I should stress that it's only a couple of pages and only a proposal, but there are several links and references to go further. I'm quite happy to post it here if people are interested (and someone can tell me how...)

You can send me an e-mail to freitasm @ geekzone.co.nz and I'll have a read... About publishing, it might be wise to wait until you're sure this will not require protection (copyrights, your rights to own the material, etc).

What do you think?

Thanks, bryanhou... Perhaps when you're here in Wellington performing parts of your experiment you want to send an e-mail? I might arrange some stuff with a provider around here for more information, if you're interested?

Thanks Mauricio.

Unfortunately I was in Wellington from 17th-22nd, and didn't see your post until I returned to Auckland this morning.

I haven't had any further interest from the group, but I have recruited a couple of undergraduate assistants.
